SUMMER XPLOSION REBOOT 2025

The Brief

After a decade of silence, Summer Xplosion was coming home.

DJ Kuchi’s legendary Easter weekend gathering last hosted in 2015 had earned its place in Botswana’s cultural memory . Reviving it after ten years meant more than throwing a party. It meant proving that the wait was worth it.

The venue: Duma Grounds. The mission: transform open land into a cathedral of sound, light, and movement. Uncle Waffles, DJ Maphorisa, Kelvin Momo, Usimamane, Han C, DJ Robotic—a lineup that spanned nations and genres . All of them needed a stage worthy of their craft. All of them needed to be heard, seen, felt.

Our brief arrived in four movements: stage, sound, lighting, power. Build the skeleton. Let the music breathe.

The Process

We arrived at Duma Grounds when it was still just dirt and sky.

The stage rose first not merely a platform, but a declaration. It needed to carry local heroes and international headliners with equal weight. Han C’s soulful intimacy. Usimamane’s high-voltage energy. Uncle Waffles’ command of every limb in the crowd . We engineered it to hold them all, without favor, without failure.

Sound arrived in waves. Not simply volume, but architecture every frequency assigned its place so that DJ Maphorisa’s kick drums landed in chests while Kelvin Momo’s piano melodies floated above, untouched by distortion . The system was tuned to the geography of Duma Grounds, learning the land before the first ticket was scanned.

Lighting painted the night in layers. For Uncle Waffles’ reveal dressed to stop hearts the beams found her before the crowd did . For Usimamane’s “Uvalo” with Big Zulu, the rig pulsed with the track’s tension . For Kelvin Momo’s closing set, the illumination softened into something like dawn, easing thousands toward the early morning hours.

Power ran beneath it all, invisible and relentless. Generators hummed in the background, asking for nothing, ensuring everything.

And when the queues stretched long and the entry moved slow, the ground inside remained steady. The beats never wavered. The lights never flickered. The stage held.

The Result

The queues will be remembered. The warm drinks will be mentioned. Reviews will note the friction at the gates, the patience tested before the music could work its magic .

But those who made it inside thousands upon thousands will remember something else.

They will remember Uncle Waffles descending like a queen, the crowd hypnotized by every step . They will remember DJ Maphorisa reminding everyone why his name carries weight across a continent . They will remember Han C’s melodies threading through the night, holding strangers in a single moment . They will remember Kelvin Momo closing the sky with piano, sending them home soft and satisfied .

And when the footage circulates the lights catching smoke, the stage framed against the dark, the sound wrapping around bodies pressed together no one will ask who built it.

That is the work. To be invisible when it matters most.

Summer Xplosion rose from a decade of silence. It stumbled at the door. But once inside, it exploded exactly the way a comeback should.

We built the ground. They brought the fire.
