THE NATURAL DIAMOND SUMMIT 2023

The Brief

In November 2023, the diamond world turned its eyes to Gaborone.

Leaders from Botswana’s Government, the global diamond industry, and international stakeholders converged for the annual Natural Diamond Summit, hosted by De Beers Group in partnership with the Ministry of Minerals and Energy . The theme was “Sustainability: People, Product, and Planet” a conversation about how natural diamonds drive sustainable development for producer countries .

His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi would deliver the keynote address. De Beers CEO Al Cook would speak about a transformative new 10-year sales agreement and 25-year mining license extension a historic moment for the nation . Ministers, industry leaders, and international media would be watching.

The brief? Create a technical and logistical environment worthy of the moment. A space that felt substantial enough for Heads of State, yet warm enough for meaningful dialogue about sustainability and community.

The Process

We didn’t arrive with clipboards. We arrived with curiosity.

Early conversations revealed something important: this wasn’t just another summit. It was a moment where Botswana would stand before the global diamond industry and articulate a new chapter one defined not by what the earth gives, but by what the nation builds with it. The stage needed to carry that weight.

So we led with an idea.

The Diamond Dome became our answer to a question no one had asked: What if the venue itself told the story? We designed a structure that felt both grounded and elevated earthy in texture, intentional in form. It wasn’t just a marquee. It was a physical reflection of the summit’s theme: people, product, planet, in balance.

But a gathering of this magnitude breathes in the details.

We deployed a fleet of golf carts to ferry delegates from their drop-off points to the dome’s entrance. A small gesture, perhaps but one that turned arrival into an experience. No confusion. No waiting. Just a quiet, seamless welcome that set the tone before anyone stepped inside.

Once the conversations began, our work receded into the background exactly where it belonged. The lighting wrapped the room in warmth without demanding attention. The audio carried every word from President Masisi’s keynote to the panel exchanges with crystalline clarity. The stage framed not itself, but the ideas unfolding upon it.

And when delegates stepped out to tour Jwaneng mine or visit cutting factories, they carried with them an impression that began the moment they were met by a cart and guided toward a dome that felt, somehow, like the future of an industry.

The Result

The Natural Diamond Summit 2023 was widely recognised as a landmark event.

Beyond the headlines about the new sales agreement and mining licence extension , the summit succeeded in its deeper mission: demonstrating how diamonds can drive sustainable development when managed with intention.

For Stage Works Africa, it was another opportunity to prove that we don’t just supply equipment we deliver environments where important conversations can happen.

  • The Diamond Dome provided a physical space that matched the significance of the occasion .

  • The golf carts ensured every delegate arrived comfortably and on time a small detail with an outsized impact on the guest experience.

  • The technical production framed speeches and panels with clarity and presence, letting the content breathe and the speakers shine.

As one industry publication noted, the summit brought together leaders “to discuss the critical role natural diamonds play in driving sustainable development for producer countries” . We’re proud to have built the stage literally and logistically for that conversation.

Because when the stakes are high, the details matter.
